Description

Developed alongside the moving-image work La Solitude des Automates, these photographs turn toward the industrial space itself. Made inside an automated textile factory in Changle, China, the series shifts attention from production toward architecture, artificial light, repetition and absence.

The first photograph maintains an almost architectural frontal view: an emptied foreground, stable lines, cold artificial light, and beyond the glass, the persistence of production. Human presence becomes indirect, displaced toward the margins of a space increasingly organised according to the rhythm and scale of machines.

The second work expands this spatial investigation through a panoramic image whose dimensions remain variable. Rather than being grasped at once, the image unfolds laterally, requiring the viewer to move across it and gradually measure the scale of the industrial interior.

Rather than presenting automation as a dystopian spectacle or as the simple replacement of human labour, the series observes how automation reorganises space, perception and presence. The human has not entirely disappeared, but no longer occupies the centre.
